Energy and Environment
The point of an energy-efficient lifestyle is not that we should subject ourselves every day to cold showers in dark rooms, but rather to gain insight into and break the habitual wastefulness that serves no purpose. We advocate saving energy in a smart way. In fact, with the help of new technology, one can combine environmental awareness with a maintained quality of life and comfort.
One rather little-known factor among energy-saving measures is the replacement of mixers. Energy labeling of refrigerators and freezers has increased public awareness of their energy consumption, but few know today that by switching to an energy-efficient mixer, you can annually save as much energy as a modern freezer consumes.
An average household can save about 3,900 SEK per year by replacing three standard water mixers—at the sink, washbasin, and shower—with new energy-efficient mixers. Smart new technology ensures that the water’s temperature and flow remain unchanged. These new efficient mixers save roughly 40 percent of hot water usage. A test conducted by the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration at Arlanda shows that up to 60 percent of hot water can be saved by replacing the water mixer on a toilet.
Save Water in the Kitchen and Washbasin
By installing the energy-saving system Mora ESS in combination with Mora Turbo and Mora Eco-spray collectors at the sink and washbasin, a hot water saving of up to 40 percent is achieved. This is possible because Mora ESS ensures that only cold water flows when the mixing tap is in the neutral position. You must actively think about when you want hot water, as it only comes when the tap is turned to the left of the centerline. This means that for short uses, you avoid drawing hot water into the pipes that then cools down to no avail. A study conducted by the Swedish Energy Agency (SP AR 2008:10) showed that over 57 percent of all flushes in a household are less than one minute long.
